Rage's third-period comeback falls short

The Rage celebrate their first goal in Saturday night's game.

Max Birkinbine put a rebound past Dawson Creek netminder Edward Dyson for a 1-0 lead, but inside the final five minutes of the period Carter Page scored his first of two when he connected with a rebound to the left of Fairbanks tender Steve Perry.

The Icedogs added a couple more in the second. Birkinbine was all alone in front of Dyson, took a pass from Pavlo Padakin and snapped a high wrist shot to the netminder’s glove side.

Jeff Earnest put the visitors up 3-1 when he managed to get his stick on a rebound and shovel it past Dyson.

Fairbanks made it 5-1 in the first two minutes of the second when Taylor Munson scored to make it 4-1, and 24 seconds later Birkinbine completed his hat trick to make it 5-1.

The game seemed all but over until the Rage scored two quick ones at 6:03 and 7:01.

Austin Adduono made it 5-2 on the power play and 58 seconds later, still on the power play, Ryan Matthews faked a shot from 10 feet out and then scored with a wrist shot.

The Rage pulled Dyson for the extra attacker and the puck deflected off Page and into the net to make it a one-goal game with 91 seconds to play.

The Rage were unable to knot the score, and with 0.1 seconds remaining Munson scored into the empty net.

"It was great that we were able to almost come back and [important] that we show up every night. If we take time off, it is hard to come back when they capitalize on a few goals," said Page.
