Concerned and disappointed

To the Editor:

I am concerned and disappointed with the direction that City Council is taking in regards to decommissioning Rotary Lake or replacing it with a splash park. I urge you to rescind the motion and address this issue with the public.

It seems there has been some confusion about what the motion stated.

It clearly states that the lake will be decommissioned or replaced with a splash park and the groups involved will be informed on the new direction.

This means the decision has been made. It also means there was no consultation.

Rotary Lake is a much-loved and enjoyed public park that is free for families of all income levels. It is a tourism hot spot for residents of the Peace Region and beyond. It is a meeting place for friends from different communities to enjoy the day together. It is a beautiful green space unique to Dawson Creek and has been enjoyed for generations. It is a place that welcomes home those who have moved away and return for their summer vacations. It is a historical landmark for our community and should be a centerpiece that we are proud of.

Please reconsider your decision and bring the reports to the community for consultation.
