For our children
I heard a phrase on TV one evening, I can’t get out my mind.
We don’t inherit the earth from our forefathers, we borrow it from our children.
With that thought I look at what’s going on in our back yard. The alarming rate we seem to be extracting our natural resources. Forests, mining gas and oil. Mostly for export. All the while our province and country going deeper into dept.
Are we saving enough resources for our future needs?
Talk of power from site C dam if built at tax payer expense, supplying cheap or subsidized power, to foreign owned coal mines they are talking about opening in Hudson Hope area. Then the talk of the shortage of skilled labour and trades people. Will we have to bring workers from other countries to work in these mines. If so they have to send money home to look after their families, understandable? But the money and product leave the country. All the while we go deeper into dept. Not sure this helps our children and grandchildren.
Are we managing our resources at a sub stainable rate ? Or are we cashing now with little or no thought for our children’s and grandchildren’s future.
I’m not against progress as long as we are looking to the future well being of our children and all Canadians.
