Tumbler Ridge RCMP discovered human remains in what they are deeming a "suspicious" fire on Sunday.
On Nov. 3, Tumbler Ridge police responded to a complaint of a suspicious fire in the Bull Moose Forest Service Road area. North District RCMP spokeswoman Cst. Lesley Smith said that police found the burned remnants of a travel trailer unit and a Jeep.
Upon investigating, police discovered what they believe were the remains of a single individual.
Smith said that due to the ongoing investigation, police could not reveal any further details about the remains they found, such as an estimated age or the sex of the victim. Police say the victim has yet to be identified.
The BC Coroner's Service, Forensic Identification Section and North District Major Crime Unit have all attended the scene, which was still being secured by the RCMP on Monday.
